All it takes is 1 person, 1 child and 1 hour per week to make a difference!

Be a Mentor is a Charleston-based nonprofit organization that runs 3 signature in-school mentoring programs at 22 schools across the Lowcountry (elementary, middle and high school). Additionally, we offer 2 programs with a specific focus on academic improvement. Through weekly meetings, mentors work to instill confidence, build social and emotional skills, and ensure that every child has a caring adult in their lives. For more information, visit

Project Shine is for middle school students and focuses on career exploration, academic success and teaches the importance of setting and reaching goals.

The Career Path Mentoring program matches mentors with high school students interested in similar career areas and helps students explore secondary education options as well as develop skills for the future workplace.
